NHKA Race 3 this Saturday at Canaan Motor Club

Tuesday, August 25th, 2020

Everything is coming together for NHKA Race 3 this Saturday at Canaan Motor Club. It was a quick turnaround from the last race, we hope everyone has been able to get their karts fully prepped – or at least all the grass blown off!

We have reached capacity for Friday night camping, and cannot accept anymore requests. However, you are welcome to drop off your trailer Friday night starting a 6pm. Non-campers must be off the property by 8pm. No exceptions (especially if you’re any good at corn hole.)

Saturday morning the gate will open at 6:30am.

A schedule for the day and race format will be posted this Thursday.

Race 3 – Coming in Hot!

Wednesday, August 19th, 2020

Hot on the heels of an incredibly competitive day of racing comes another: NHKA Race 3 on Saturday August 29th. Once again we’ll be at Canaan Motor Club, but this time we’ll be racing on Half Track 1. As with all our events this season, pre-registration is required, and each driver is allowed one helper (minors can bring two parents) who must be listed on the form. Entries and pit passes will not be sold at the track, no exceptions. The deadline to enter is Tuesday August 25th at midnight, so don’t dilly dally about sending your pre-registration form.

Friday night trailer drop-offs will be permitted as well as camping for $25. However, we need to limit the number of campers beyond NHKA staff. These spots will given to the first 20 people to request one via nhkaracingseries@gmail.com

We’ll be following all the same track entry and Covid-19 Event Procedures as last race. Stay tuned for updates and reminders in the days leading up to the race.

More Updates for Race 2

Thursday, August 13th, 2020

Thanks to all for your cooperation with our new procedures not that of it seems to deter any of you considering that we have 142 entries among 125 drivers for NHKA Race 2 this coming SUNDAY. It will certainly be a busy and ultra-competitive day at Canaan Motor Club.

We work very hard in the office and at the track to address issues and make adjustments to so race days run as smoothly as possible. So to that end, here are some updates and reminders to help make it a fun event for one and all.

Saturday night trailer drop-off and camping (sorry, no vacancy) will be 6-8pm only. No exceptions. Anyone caught parking their trailer after hours will be expelled from the event. Registration pick up will be available as well as safety tech. Lights out for campers will be at 10pm.

The gate will open at 6:30am Sunday. DO NOT park anywhere on the road in front of the track if you are early. We will be using the first gate to the property. There’ll be a sign. Do not miss it, there’s no place to turn around if you do.

Everyone listed on your pre-reg form must be with you to enter the track and pick up your registration packet. No exceptions. No substitutions. No refunds for unused pit passes.

Gate will be closed at 9am or once everyone in line has entered. It will not re-open for late arrivals.

Gate will stay closed all day. Exit and reentry will not be allowed. We are working on a food vendor – sandwiches, chips, cookies etc. We will confirm via email as soon as we know one way or the other. But be prepared to stay on the property all day.

Parking will be first come first served. There will be a parking attendant. Larger teams have a designated area. If you want to be pitted near someone, make sure they enter the same time as you.

Face coverings must be worn at all times in all common areas – meaning anywhere that’s not your pit area – grid, pathways, anyone else’s pit, any and all areas of the property. No exceptions. We will not tolerate violations. Any and all reminders may result in expulsion from the event.

Face coverings are not required in your own pit area. Also, drivers may wear their helmets without a mask to walk between their pit and the grid.

There will be an in-person drivers meeting at 8:30 am.

Kid Kart practice will begin immediately after the drivers meeting. Kid Karts will use the infield kart track.

206 Cadet, TaG Mini & TaG Micro will use the full course. If there are any issues with the drivers, we will shorten the course.

Two 5-minute practice sessions by groups.
One 5-minute qualifying session by group.

One 20-minute race per group, timed from drop of green flag.

Race 2 Updates

Sunday, August 2nd, 2020

We have a few early updates for NHKA Race 2 at Canaan Motor Club on SUNDAY August 16th.

Because the town of Canaan has seen so few cases of Covid-19, we are going to exercise an abundance of caution and limit adult drivers to one helper and minors to two parents. We are also asking attendees to refrain from patronizing local businesses, and if you do to be sure to wear your masks, maintain distancing and clean your hands before entering.

For the first time this season we will be allowing camping and trailer drop-offs the night before the race. Registration pick-ups and safety inspection will be available to those competitors. This will only be allowed SATURDAY night 6-8pm. Nobody will be allowed into the track outside that two-hour window until the gates reopen SUNDAY morning at 6:30am. Please also remember that parking along the road is not allowed at any time. Do not arrive early to wait for the gate to open. There will be a $25 charge for camping and you must notify us in advance via nhkaracingseries@gmail.com by the pre-registration deadline August 11th. We may need to limit the number of campers, which will be done in the order requests are received.

Some of you were wondering about points… we will calculate and post the points, but just for fun. There will be no official 2020 champions, and it’s looking unlikely there will be a banquet. On an up note, all 2020 NHKA Memberships are good through 2021. We can’t tell you how much we appreciate the way you support your club through disasters that are truly on a biblical scale – last year’s flood, this year’s plague, next year it’ll probably be locus. It’s great to be part of a community that’s there for each other no matter what. You’re awesome!

Lastly, if you haven’t submitted your pre-registration form yet, you only have until midnight August 11th. We’ll be on the big track at Canaan, which is a high-speed blast you don’t want to miss!

On to Race 2 at Canaan SUNDAY August 16th

Thursday, July 30th, 2020

Thank you to all who made Race 1 a success. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we navigate these strange times. It’s fair to say that the parking was the most difficult part… some of your pit areas were too far from the grid. Nonetheless, everyone seemed to manage it minimal complaints. The pit area at Canaan Motor Club is laid out much better so distance won’t be an issue.

Race 2 will be at Canaan Motor Club on SUNDAY August 16. We will use the full 1.4 mile track with the chicane. If you haven’t raced the big track at Canaan you are in for a lot of fun. We will race if it rains, but we will use the 1/2 track in front of the grid.

We’ll be following the NHKA Covid-19 Event Procedures as we did at NHMS. We will update all of that as we get closer to race day. We’ll let everyone know it there are any changes to how things will work closer to race day

You must submit your pre-registration form with your payment and the Covid-19 waiver signed by midnight August 11th. When emailing pre-reg and tire forms, they must be sent to the nhkaracingseries@gmail account. This is the only email address we will accept forms. Fax and snail mail are okay too, but no texts, phone calls, smoke signals or telekinesis.

Race 1 Updates and Reminders

Friday, July 24th, 2020

A few updates and reminders before you attend this Saturday’s race at Loudon…

NHMS will require require everyone entering the speedway to complete their pre-screening checklist. Please print and complete this now so we can get everyone through the gate as quickly as possible. NHMS will also check forehead temperatures when you sign the track waiver.

If you have received a minor waiver and not mailed it to our office, please bring it with you. All minors must have an active annual minor waiver.

Pit passes are numbered and specifically assigned to you and the individuals listed on your pre-registration form. THERE WILL BE NO SUBSTITUTIONS OR REFUNDS for no-shows.

Only helmets with a Snell or SFI rating of 2010 or newer allowed. DOT is not a rating for racing. Please check the NHKA website for complete info… https://nhka.net/rules/competitor-rules/

Face coverings/masks must be worn in all common areas at all times. This includes the grid and spectator areas, as well as to a from your pit. You may remove your mask in your own pit only.

Remember, this is a race so all rules will be enforced, including fuel rules. World Formula and all 206 classes must run VP MS93, MS 98 or specified local pump gas… which for this event will be the 93 octane Sunoco from the gas pumps in the oval infield between the NASCAR garages. DRT Racing will have 5-gallon pails of MS93, MS 98 and C12 for sale at the track.

We will follow this schedule as closely as we can. If we can get ahead, we will put the time to good use.

Friday Night: No camping or trailer drop offs
6:30am – 9am: Gates open for track entry
8:30am: Drivers meeting – attendance and mask required
9am: Two 5-minute practice sessions
11am approx.: One 5-Minute Qualifying Session Immediately Following Practice
Noon Lunch Break Immediately Following Qualifying
6-Lap Prefinals
15-Lap Finals

This will be the practice and race order. We know there are drivers racing two or more classes, which may be back-to-back in some cases. There is no way to avoid it. So this is the best we can do.

1 Kid Kart (Final during the lunch break)
2 TaG Senior / TaG Junior
3 World Formula Heavy
4 206 Cadet / TaG Mini
5 Tag Masters
6 KZ / Stock Moto / DD2
7 206 Masters / 206 Seniors
8 206 Junior

YES!!! At Last We Race!!!

Monday, July 20th, 2020

Thank you to all who have entered so far for our first race of 2020. We’re on target to easily have more than 100 entries. If you haven’t entered yet, you only have until midnight Tuesday July 21st, so pre-register now!

Please remember that we will be following the NHKA Covid-19 Event Procedures. These are the result of hours of collaboration with everyone involved in running this series: the NHKA team, Canaan and NHMS management, local authorities, insurance companies and others. It is the implementation of these procedures that makes our events possible, which we feel is a small inconvenience to get to RACE!!! While some things will be different from a normal race day, we think most people who attended the Canaan practice would say the procedures quickly became less intrusive as they got used to them.

We also must remember that we are coming from all six New England states and beyond to small towns that have thus far been minimally impacted by the virus and would like to keep it that way. So we must be extra careful to wear our masks and follow social distancing guidelines when patronizing area businesses.

Everyone is expected to be familiar with all the NHKA Covid-19 Event Procedures, but there are a few we’d like to highlight going into Saturday’s race at NHMS…

  • There will be NO pit pass or race entry sales at the track. No exceptions.
  • NO ONE will enter who is not listed on a pre-registration form. This includes family and helpers, who must present themselves AS A GROUP WITH THEIR DRIVER at the front gate to sign in and collect their reserved pit passes. We will not hold pit passes for late arrivals. And no substituting guests from those listed on the pre-reg form.
  • The front gate will open at 7am and close at 9am for NHKA attendees (or as soon as everyone in line signs in.)
  • Social distancing in accordance to the NH State guidelines will be expected. This includes the wearing of face coverings in all common areas, including the grid, spectator area and the pathways to and from your pit areas.
  • You do NOT have to wear face coverings in your pit area. Please do not approach anyone else’s pit area without a mask or asking first.
  • You may leave the facility and come back, but be sure to follow the social distancing and face covering guidelines set forth by the state.
  • This is an OFFICIAL RACE DAY and all rules and kart regulations will apply. So please check with your team/shop to make sure you’ll have the correct tires for your class.
  • Watch later this week for an updated race day schedule and class structure.

    NHKA Releases COVID-19 Event Procedures

    Wednesday, June 17th, 2020

    Hello Racers,

We have a plan so we have a green light to get back on track at last!

NHKA has grown into a big family of racers, with many friendships dating back years. We’re all eager to return to the atmosphere of fun and comradery that makes the club so great. Unfortunately, you might be hard pressed to recognize that atmosphere when you read the new COVID-19 Event Procedures. That strange feeling isn’t likely to improve much at the track as we all learn to live with them.

These are crazy times. We need these new rules and procedures to demonstrate to everyone – members, workers, vendors, track owners, surrounding communities – that their health and safety are our top priority, that we care about how what we do effects them, and that continuing to work together is our long-term goal. We know that some measures may seem over the top, but it is better to be too cautious and be invited back than to be rebels and burn bridges that make our racing possible.

Please read and follow the new NHKA COVID-19 Event Procedures. Know we’re all going to need friendly reminders not to congregate, not to hang out in each other’s pits, to maintain six feet of distance. We’ll need to remember not to be self-defensive or get irritated about by these reminders. And we’ll need to give these reminders too. It’s the same thing as speaking up when you see something wrong with another racer’s kart. You don’t want to see them get hurt or hurt anyone else. We take care of each other. It’s a big part of what makes the NHKA what it is. If we follow all these awkward new rules in that same spirit, we’ll find that familiar atmosphere of comradery is still there, even when we’re six feet and trying to figure out how to drink a beer through a mask.

On to the first event of the 2020 season at Canaan Motor Club one June 27th and 28th. Watch your inbox, this website and the NHKA Facebook page for further updates.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at the track!
    Mike and Lee
